Developing A Community: Community Design & Maintaining Affordability
Developers (see full listing of UDI - Calgary Developer members) are expected to dedicate a great deal of time and consideration in working with various consultants required to design all aspects of the community (see full listing of UDI - Calgary Associate members).
Considerations must be given to such design elements as: site access, street layout, building orientation, the location of open space (including linear pathways, sports fields and school sites), access to important community nodes, the preservation of highly significant natural areas (Environmental Reserves), efficient servicing, landscaping, proximity to commercial areas, etc. Considerations will have to be made regarding housing affordability and other design decisions enabling the community to be attractive, comfortable, efficient, yet affordable.
In keeping with this, UDI - Calgary Developer members have worked extensively on maintaining housing affordability in Calgary. Both past and current home prices indicate our organizations' success in this area, despite a continuing high demand for new homes in our city. Although the Calgary new housing market is among the hottest in the country, housing prices remain relatively low when compared to other larger Canadian urban centres!
